The Friends Of Evesham Parish Church and Bell Tower![]() Friends' Annual Garden Party
The Friends of the Parish Church and Bell Tower have now been in existence for over 30 years.
An inaugural meeting was held on 28th June 1977 in Evesham Town Hall, under the chairmanship of Mr H.T. Sharp (organist and choirmaster of St Lawrence Church), to discuss the formation of a ‘Friends of Evesham Churches and Bell Tower’ organisation. There was unanimous support from the people of the town. A Committee was formed and subsequently a Constitution adopted. St Lawrence’s Church was declared redundant on 21st December 1977 and the two congregations, i.e. St Lawrence and All Saints, were ‘amalgamated’. The Redundant Churches Fund (now the Churches Conservation Trust) assumed responsibility for St Lawrence. The title of ‘The Friends’ was therefore eventually amended to exclude St Lawrence, by referring to The Church (rather than Churches) and Bell Tower. Registration as a charity was completed early in 1978. From the Constitution, the remit of The Friends shall be ‘to cooperate with the Parochial Church Council in the preservation, adornment and general maintenance of the Parish Church and Bell Tower, their activities and services, their ornaments and furnishings, and to promote public interest in the Church and Bell Tower, their history and their work.’ The Bishops of Worcester have over the years consented to be Patron of The Friends. Membership of The Friends is open to all, regardless of religious beliefs. The Friends enjoy a varied social programme, as well as undertaking a number of fundraising events in order to support the Parish Church and Bell Tower. For any enquiries about membership or any aspect of the Friends’ activities please contact either: Mrs Lillie Taylor (Hon Treasurer) – tel: 01386 40229, or Dr Sue Ablett (Hon Secretary) – tel: 0116 2433195. Membership leaflet is available here: LEAFLET | Flower Arrangers
A group of dedicated ladies help do the floral arrangements during the year. It is lovely to have such a willing and flexible team to keep the church looking so beautiful throughout the seasons.
Bright Sparks
Bright Sparks is a group for anyone who has care of a child under 5 years and runs each Wednesday morning during the school term in Church House from 9.45am to 11.15am. As well as providing an area where children can make some of their first contacts with non-family members in a room not much bigger than those in their own homes, the carers have the opportunity to meet and relax over a cup of coffee while their children play.
