From the beginning to the end, the Bible presents what the world would look like, if we chose to form it in the image of God. Our creation myths speak of a world which is orderly and not chaotic, which is gift and blessing, rather than being formed out of violence. The prophets demanded that the world is just, and looks after the poor. Jesus of Nazareth taught an alternative political reality which he calls the Kingdom of God, and the Book of Revelation presents a vision of a new heaven and a new earth. This year’s Lent series looks at five contemporary worlds, and their ability to shape our imaginations for good or ill. Continues here |
